Sketchbook Drawings – Honey, Rose, Goku . . .

I’ve got a few sketchbook drawings I’ve been working on the past few days. Mostly I’ve been outside getting some yard work done since the temperatures have dropped into the low 90’s. It’s amazing how much cooler that feels compared to 98 degrees. (I love that band!)

its comin right for us

I’ve also been preparing for Hurricane Laura. Just making sure we’ve got everything we need because it’s comin’ right for us . . .

Kind Words are Like Honey

honey sketches-1

I’ve always liked the style of tattoo artwork, especially the old school tattoo style. I’m not interested in drawing them on skin though.

Vector Set Of Old School Tattoo Designs – I do not own these

I just love the look and the colors. I need to practice and find my style and that’s what I was trying to do with these honey inspired images.

I was thinking about the verse in Proverbs 16:24 – “Kind words are like honey – sweet to the soul and healthy for the body.” And I thought some images like these would look good combined with that verse.

Tattoo Style Rose

I followed the tutorial on the left to practice a tattoo style rose. I also watched this video while drawing for inspiration, if you wanna check it out.

Weapon and Coffee Cup

quick weapon sketch

I drew this back in May. I love weapons and there’s so many I wanna buy, but really, I don’t need to be buying them. So, I thought I’d sketch them instead. I struggled to get the proportions right on this one. The picture was deceiving my eyes.

coffee cup graphite sketch

And I sketched a coffee cup from life. I’m sketching too much from pictures, so I’m trying to be sure I also draw from life.

Goku . . . SON GOKU!

quick goku sketches

And some quick sketches of Goku. My weeabu boyfriend has talked my ear off about Dragon Ball and Akira Toriyama’s art style literally since the first conversation we had. (Two whole years of hearing about it!) I’ve come to appreciate the art style though, so I’ve been studying up on the artist and I’ll keep trying to draw Goku.

Moon Scene

nupastel moon scene

And the last sketch for today is this moonlit scene in Prismacolor Nupastel art sticks. I drew one that I shared in my last post but I knew I could do much better, and I also enjoyed using the nupastels, so I’m trying again and taking it more seriously. I’m liking how those clouds are looking. It’s not done yet though.

I appreciate you for taking a look at my sketches and if you are needing some critique on your own artwork, I’d love to take a look and help you out.

My Drawing Goals Update

No matter how much experience or education you have, the pressure can build up and make the artwork suffer. If you’ve been reading my blog then you know the pressure was pushing down on me. I’m happy to announce that the pressure is finally being released some.

Just gotta’ remember to draw for yourself, and don’t let the pressure take away the fun. I’m still working to improve my drawing skills so in my next post I’ll be sharing some more sketches. Hopefully, I’ll be brave enough to share some hand or figure poses with you.

Sketchbook Drawings – Owl, Ballet Shoes, and a Moon

For the past month I have come across so many bird feathers in my yard, while walking on trails, and at my dad’s house. I found 10, but I lost seven of them.

I tried sketching them but I wasn’t really feelin’ it.

5. (14) owl:end table

So I decided to sketch an owl since most of the feathers I found were owl feathers. I got bored pretty quickly but it’s a decent sketch.

Ballet shoes

I’m a big Gilmore Girls fan and the creator made a show called Bunheads which is about ballerinas. I finally decided to watch it and it got me wanting to draw ballet shoes and ballerina dance poses. I think I’ll do some more of these.

nupastels moon and clouds

Someone suggested I draw a moonlit scene. I used gray toned paper for this one and Prismascolor Nupastel art sticks.

I don’t have much experience using these art sticks but they’re pretty fun. I found a moon picture I like that I think I’m gonna try drawing using these art sticks again.

Old Pen Sketches from my Telemarketer Days

telemarketer funny

When I was in college I worked as a telemarketer. I didn’t really like the job, but the company was great to work for. They had very flexible hours and included a large amount of tuition reimbursement.

When I started I was selling long distance plans for AT&T. Then I sold DSL Internet. Then I was a chat customer service rep for Kohls. That one was my favorite one and I was so sad when they decided to outsource to India. And my last job with that company was selling services for Verizon through chat.

I wasn’t very good at it and I was done with telemarketing and sales after that. I made a few friends while there and in between calls we talked and laughed and complained about people hanging up on us.

death-note-episode6-dvd-screenshot3

I actually learned about the anime Death Note from one guy.

From another guy, I learned about the very cool graphic novel, Preacher Gone to Texas. Fun fact: I went to high school with the daughter of the guy who wrote the forward, and he even mentions my home town in it.

Bic Pen Sketches

Another thing I did to kill time while sitting in my little cubicle was sketch. And I found 6 that I’d like to share with you.  You can tell that a lot of my pen strokes were done quickly. That’s because I had to hurry while I was getting a call.

Door perspective

I was really into metaphysical art back then. I think that’s the style I was going for in this one.

Eye with One Blue Line 1

This one is kinda cool. I like how I made the eye blue and drew only one blue line coming from it. If I drew that today, I would’ve drawn some blue vessels in the white part of the eye, and connected it to the blue line, and the blue line would be coming from the other side of the eye.

I also like the dirty stains on it. I have no idea what that’s from though. Spilled coffee, maybe . . .

Guy with Spikey

This is my favorite. I like this dude’s lil’ spikey friend/pet thing. I wonder if I was inspired by the Chain-Chomp on Mario Bros . . .

Meta surreal space sketch

Another inspired by metaphysical or maybe surrealism.

Sunny Ball

Awww, and there’s a sketch of my dog, Sunny, while she was sleeping. We just got her when I drew this. I actually drew these two of Sunny at home, but I kept them with my other sketches that I did at work.

Sunny Snoring

And the final image is another of my good girl snoozing. She’s such a loud snorer. She snores like a grown man! And she kicks her legs and makes squeaking noises when she’s dreaming about chasing rabbits.

bic pen

I love drawing with pen. It can be a good way to challenge you to draw better since you can’t erase. And I think it looks cool. Plus, you can actually draw some incredible artwork using a simple and cheap Bic pen.

Do you like drawing with pens?

They come in a lot of colors so, if you haven’t already, go ahead and try them out . . .
