The popular Inktober is almost here. I’ve always wanted to try but never did because I was just too overwhelmed and I felt pressured about coming up with a good drawing for each prompt. I pretty much just didn’t think I could do it.
I can do it though!
And I’m gonna be smart and prepare for it. YouTube has a ton of videos of artists giving out tips and tricks for completing the challenge successfully. So, I’m checking those out.
I’ve always wanted to get some nice pens but always stuck with my Bic pens. Bic pens are great, don’t get me wrong, but it’s always nice to have a variety. My dad got me these pens and sketchbook for my birthday, which I’ll be using for Inktober.
A Few Tips
- Gather your supplies – I have to be able to balance my art with everything in my life, so I’m probably going to just focus on Inktober and put my other projects on the back burner. I’ll also be sure I have my pencil, kneaded eraser, all my pens, and my sketches available so that I can just sit down and work.
- Get familiar with the prompt list and sketch out ideas – I’ve already written down the list on a large piece of paper and started sketching out some ideas. My goal is to have a sketch for each day before October.
- Relax and have fun – This is the most important tip. It’s great to be able to actually complete a challenge, but ultimately, I just want to have fun and I want to draw. I’m hoping this challenge will help me improve and create some interesting art.
In other news😂. . . I was wanting to buy a small and affordable desk but all I was finding were crappy made desks for way more money than they’re worth. My dad came across this old desk that’s the right size and the right price . . . free.
The paint is very old and I’m working on sanding through a few layers. It’s taking a long time because I’m not using a sander, just relying on the ol’ muskles.
That’s the top before I started sanding. I’ve finished the top, the drawers, two of the sides, and I still have two sides to go.
There’s Sunny sniffing the desk. It was stored in this old house for a very long time, so I’m sure there’s a bunch of interesting scents grabbing her attention. I’d like to sand down to the wood and stain it. I think it’ll look better with a stain instead of paint.
Next week I’ll be sure to share my Inktober Prep. progress and any goals I have for the challenge. I plan to post everyday, so if you’re planning to do the same don’t be shy . . . like, comment, and follow my blog. And hopefully we can create some cool artwork together.
