Bacchus Paintings by Guido Reni

Guido Reni, Drinking Bacchus, c.1623

Check out this painting my Daily Art App shared on January 1. It’s so funny. Bacchus here is drinking his wine and peeing at the same time. It’s like he could just keep drinking forever non-stop. Well, he is the god of wine and debauchery so I guess he needs to be able to handle his alcohol like a pro.

I like how the barrel he’s leaning on also has a stream of liquid pouring from it. And the look on his face! He’s also got a pretty good beer belly developing at such a young age. I’m not a drinker, but if I was, I would totally hang this up in my house. It’d be a hit.

Young Bacchus

While I was looking for the Drinking Bacchus painting, I found another painting by Guido Reni of a young Bacchus. I’m not sure who that other kid is, maybe a protoge of his. I really like these paintings by this famous and talented Baroque painter.

Here’s one more…

Bacchus and Ariadne

Here’s Bacchus as a handsome young god staring at this woman. He’s still sporting that grape vine crown on his head that he was wearing when he was a baby and a child. She doesn’t seem very interested though. And what’s she holding her hand out for?? Maybe she’s holding out for some of his delectable wine.
