Sunny wakes up every morning ready to hunt, but as for me . . . ehh, not so much.
About 6 years ago, I went squirrel and deer hunting. I’ve always been a good shot, and yes, I did shoot my first squirrel, but it’s not something I want to do again.I’d much rather shoot with my camera!
I usually start my day with a strong cup of coffee and this verse on my mind:
This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. – Psalm 118:24 (NIV)
I see so much beauty all around me in every little detail. I can’t help but rejoice when I look out my window and see beautiful East Texas. Looks like a great time to go for a walk . . . NOT a hunt.
I love to get my Jackabee all worked up (cuz it’s sooo cute). So, I yell in a high pitched crescendo, “Wanna’ go for a walk?!”
Sunny excitedly shows her answer through exaggerated tail wagging, fast twirling, and high jumping. Her patience is tested to the max as I s-l-o-w-l-y grab my iPod, my camera, and my sunglasses. The second I open the door she’s outa’ there like a torpedo. This 19 lb dog with Herculean strength is pulling me up the hill to the road, where her adventure will begin.
I manage to take one picture and enjoy the sun and music for only a minute when her nose catches some fascinating scent, and she suddenly jerks me to the left.
Quickly, I untangle my ear buds, my camera strap, and my dog’s lead and begin frantically snapping pictures of Sunny and the rabbit hole she has found. (I hope I get some good pictures.)
(I’m not really in the mood to hunt right now, but that is indeed what we are doing.)
Whew! Today’s hunt is done.
I know Sunny is happy and calm when I see her mouth WIDE open with her tongue hanging out.
Today, Sunny was able to hunt. Some days, she doesn’t get to hunt. The same thing goes for us humans. Some days go better than others. Those other days can seem really bad and get us into crabby moods.
But, we must remember that the LORD made each day, and we CAN rejoice and be glad in it; whether we get to “hunt” or not. I pray that each of you are able to find the joy in each day, and rejoice.
